These are pieces for all seasons, designed to work both outdoors in the garden and inside your home as sculptural objects. They sit naturally within a space, holding their presence throughout the year—especially in winter, when plants fade—marking where things grow and adding a quiet, lasting element.
In this workshop, you will create two garden ornaments inspired by natural forms such as thistle, sea holly, and poppy seed heads. Using your imagination, you’ll develop your own interpretation of these plants, transforming them into unique sculptural pieces.
We will also discuss how these forms can be made in ways that gently support nature—for example, by creating small surfaces or textures that can benefit birds, insects, or butterflies, helping your garden to welcome them.
We will explore a variety of handbuilding techniques, including pinching, coiling, and slab construction. You’ll experiment with stamps and different methods of creating surface texture to capture the intricate details found in nature
Each student will produce 2 pieces that we will bisque for them, and we will include 2 x 8mm rebar steel rods per students too for display
