Our 2026 summer school will be run by Elaine Bolt. Clay is Audrey Blackman Porcelain. All materials included and 3 pieces fired.
Please bring a packed lunch. Hot/Cold drinks and snacks are provided.
This is a two day workshop. Try throwing with porcelain and work on your throwing skills with Elaine Sheppard Bolt; explore turning and embellishing thrown pieces with loop handles, slips and twigs. This course is suitable for those who have some existing throwing experience that they would like to build upon, and those who would like to try porcelain.
The workshop aims to look at improving your throwing skills with porcelain and looking at how to make your pieces individual. The sessions will focus on discovering the properties and challenges of this material and improving techniques in throwing and turning. We will throw cylinders, bowls and narrow necked vases to practice these skills using porcelain. The second day will focus on turning and exploring finishing your pieces. You will focus on practice more than creating a perfect finished piece.
Elaine has an MA in Ceramics from UCA Farnham and am an alumni of the Crafts Council’s Hothouse talent development programme.
