Kim Bagley produce sculptures and installations mostly using clay. Her works explore contemporary social issues primarily through metaphor. Using, form, colour, texture, material and text she references political and social history as well as the history of ceramics.
Kim specialised in ceramics on a Visual Art course at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. This training combined a hybrid post-colonial form of studio pottery with the political edge of fine art practices in South Africa. Her South African background is a significant influence on her studio practice. In 2010 she began a research degree in the UK, solidifying research as an important element of her practice. During this period she developed the use of multiples in her work, and began to draw on textile practices – in both form and visual language.
Alongside her practice, Kim Bagley lectures at Plymouth College of Art.
